Web 2.0 Losers = Negativity Lists
OK, I admit I wanted to read the latest articles listing each author’s favorite Web 2.0 losers (pardon the use of the W2 word). One of the first was posted on Wired News and then a few days later on a well Digged blog called Wisdump. Lists of about the Top 10 Lists naturally attract attention since people want some concise guide on how to frame the world. The Top 10 Loser Lists are another version of this but reflect people’s tendency to whinge and criticize. Of course the ever popular bashing of Squidoo is always rehashed (poor Seth Godin.) Now I understand that good sites like Techcrunch use this format to help us sort through the garbage but I wonder how useful these loser lists really are especially for what I generally consider positive sites like Technorati. Hmm, should we really be so negative about webapps. Have you seen what’s going on in the real world?

Well, see here Lance, if people like the forementioned Wired writer or the creator of Wisdump (does “dump” mean the same in German as it does in English? As in taking a…) didn’t have the opportunity to criticize and debunk websites/apps, there would be no quality control. The concept and benefits of blogging hinge on the fact that people can rant AND rave about whatever they like. So what’s wrong with some critics listing up in chronological order all the lame and failing web businesses popping out of the woodwork? I guess, begrudgingly, not much. Rather they’re doing us a favor and giving us fodder to write about (like this) on our own whinging blogs. Which couldn’t be bad, could it? Thanks fellas!
